Abstract

Efforts were continued on the development of a closed loop nitrogen-neon cooler with interchangeable Ge:Hg and InSb detectors. The final steps toward procurement of the InSb detectors was taken. Measurements of InSb at temperatures in the vicinity of 30 K were made. These measurements showed that InSb detectors were deteriorated by approximately a factor of three, an unacceptable amount. Accordingly, arrangements were made to supply a 10-watt heater at the base of the InSb detectors and a thermistor to measure the temperature in the vicinity of the detectors and to control the temperature of these detectors to that required. The required temperature will be in the range of 70 K to 90 K. (Author)
