A GRAPHICAL REPRESENTATION OF GALVANOMAGNETIC AND THERMOMAGNETIC PHENOMENA,

Abstract

The definitions of the galvanomagnetic and thermomagnetic effects, their magnetic field dependence and the relations between them are illustrated with diagrams. The diagrams show the relative orientations and magnitudes of the electric currents, heat currents, electrochemical potential gradient and temperature gradient in a magnetic field and for conduction by electrons, holes or both. For an isotropic material with conduction by both holes and electrons, twelve parameters are needed. Diagrams which show the variation of the Hall angle and electrical conductivity with the electron to hole carrier concentration ratio and which show the relations between the adiabatic and isothermal coefficients are included.
