A SIMPLE PROBLEM IN ANHAROMONICITY,

Abstract

The eigenvalues of the one-dimensional coupled oscillators are evaluated for cubic and quartic perturbations and these yield energy terms that include products of the quantum numbers of the two normal modes. The spacing between levels are broadened in energy by difference 20 percent. A partition function derived from the Morse potential is proposed to evaluate the thermodynamic properties of a real crystal. (Author)
