PROGRAM 706. TASK 3. LINEAR SHAPED CHARGE SEPARATION TESTS.

Abstract

The study and test results of a flexible linear shaped charge (FLSC) system designed for space vehicle stage separation are presented. Three full size separation tests using the P706 interstage and FLC system are described. Each system was subjected to different environment prior to the separation tests. Also included are shock spectra data calculations obtained using an the raw shock data measured. The successful separations demonstrate that the system is functionally acceptable. The magnitude of the shock response decreases with distance from the separation plane. Correlation between test results is good. The magnitude of shock response computed is in the order of several hundred g's for a limited number of cycles, using a damping ratio of 2%. This level of shock should be taken into account in equipment designed to operate after a shaped charge system is actuated. (Author)
