ELASTIC AND ACOUSTIC WAVES RADIATED FROM CYLINDRICAL MEDIA ABOUT A POINT SOURCE,

Abstract

The theory for three related but different problems is considered. These problems involve finding the radiation pattern from simple harmonic sources in various types of media geometries which can be represented by cylindrical surfaces. The first problem is a consideration of a point source on the axis of an elastic circular cylinder which is completely surrounded by an infinite elastic medium of different properties. The second and third problems are acoustic or two-fluid problems. A free surface has been introduced in both these examples. The source region for the second problem is a fluid half cylinder with the free surface containing the axis of the cylinder and the source located below the axis. The last problem involves a truncated fluid cylinder with the axis normal to the free surface. No numerical values have been obtained for the formal solutions presented here. (Author)
