FREQUENCY CONVERTER UNITS FOR L-BAND, S-BAND, C-BAND AND X-BAND.

Abstract

Both the Varian VA 283A and the Oki 35V10 klystrons were tested and found to perform satisfactorily. The preliminary model of the highpass filter for L-band was tested and performed as expected. The band-pass filters for X-band and L-band were partially tested. The first had acceptable insertion loss and VSWR at the center frequency. The two models of the L-band filters tested had excessive loss in the pass band. Both units had construction defects; repairs will be attempted and tests continued. The present design goals for the band-pass filters are quite severe. Consideration will be given to reducing these requirements to simplify filter construction. Measurements were made in X-band of the characteristics of the Sage crystal holder. An equivalent circuit applicable to this older was derived to simplify and to speed up measurements of element values and calculation of crystal impedance. (Author)
