FLOW SIMULATION IN HYPERSONIC WIND TUNNELS,

Abstract

Calculations were made to determine the test section conditions at three design points in a proposed AEDC Wind Tunnel including the effects of nonequilibrium chemical reactions. Further calculations were made to determine quantitatively the effects of various parameters on nonequilibrium nozzle flows. Wedge studies were made to determine the effects of oxygen dissociation in the free stream on the flow. Due to the thick, and possibly merged, boundary layer under the conditions investigated, no conclusive results were obtained. In calculations along the stagnation line of a sphere, however, it was found that free stream oxygen dissociation had little effect on the flow for the case considered. (Author)
