A THIN-PLATE BATTERY.
Abstract
The multiple-cell studies conducted are a continuation of studies initiated previously. The units fabricated and evaluated were of the 28volt series type. The evaluation was conducted primarily on the results obtained from a fractional factorial series of experiments. This series was devised to analyze five battery variables at two levels. The battery parameters selected for evaluation lie in the categories of activation modes and fabrication details. The basis for evaluation of these units is the output voltage, although pressure and temperature changes also received consideration. The investigation of the anode-cathector couple effect was broadened to provide data for comparison with the pressure, temperature and weight changes of multicell units under discharge. The investigation was conducted on 15-plate units containing magnesium, magnesium-stainless steel laminates, and magnesium-stainless steel-mDNB combinations. Additionally, a detailed component weight analysis was conducted on battery units TC-24 and FTMC-43. (Author)
