DESIGN OF A NARROW WALL TRANSVERSE SLOTTED WAVEGUIDE ARRAY AT 70 GC,

Abstract

Research concerned the design of a slotted waveguide antenna array for a low-power lightweitht, 70 Gc ground ranging radar system. Narrow-wall transverse slot arrays were designed, using both the Taylor and the uniform aperture distributions. The methods and equations used in the design are discussed. A generalized method of obtaining Taylor aperture distributions, with minimum effort, is presented. A 100-slot array was built using the uniform aperture distribution, and a 164-slot array was constructed using the Taylor aperture distribution. Both arrays were constructed using RG-98/U waveguide. At the design frequency, the 100-slot array had calculated and measured efficiencies of 84 and 81 percent, while the 164-slot array had calculated and measured efficiencies of 86 and 83 percent, respectively. Measurements taken on these arrays showed that beamwidth and sidelobe levels were within design requirements. (Author)
