TACAN-DME CHANNEL EXPANSION.

Abstract

Two methods of doubling the number of TACAN - DME channels were studied. One is the PULSE MULTIPLEX METHOD in which additional channels are created by virtue of new pulse codes within the existing duplex frequency arrangement. The other is the HYBRID METHOD in which additional air-to-ground channels are created by pulse multiplexing, but the additional ground-to-air channels are created by assigning frequencies in the second and third quarters of the TACAN Spectrum to ground transmitters and transferring the image frequency response of the airborne receivers. A new pulse code is used in the ground-to-air path to minimize inter-channel interference. (Author)
