EFFECT OF NON-MAGNETIC SCANDIUM OCTAHEDRAL SUBSTITUTION ON THE MAGNETIZATION AND INITIAL PERMEABILITY OF YTTRIUM IRON GARNET,

Abstract

Effects of non-magnetic scandium octahedral substitution on yttrium iron garnet ferrite were studied in a series of polycrystalline garnets having the unit formula Y3 Sc sub x 2-x Fe3O12 where x was varied from 0 to 1.7. Measurements are reported on the lattice parameters, magnetization and the complex initial permeability temperature and frequency spectra. Both the apparent magnetic moments at T=0 K and the Curie temperatures are in good agreement with the statistical theory of incomplete superexchange linkages of Gilleo. (Author)
