VULNERABILITY OF SEMICONDUCTOR RECEIVER RF ELEMENTS TO SIGNAL ENVIRONMENTS,

Abstract

Quantitative data are presented on the performance of microwave semiconductor devices in various kinds of strong-signal environment. The susceptibility to interference of receivers using varactor and tunnel diode amplifiers is investigated. Spurious receiver responses, gain compression, cross-modulation and frequency pulling are measured, and the observed performance is related to theory where appropriate. The results of the study are sufficiently general to provide a useful guide to the performance of similar circuits in strong-signal environments. The influence of semiconductor characteristics, circuit design and receiver design are discussed. (Author)
