METEOROLOGICAL TRACKING RADAR STUDY.
Abstract
An investigation is presented on the technical and economic suitability and availability of the existing tracking radars for use with the Robin and Rose Meteorological Balloon targets. The investigation is concentrated on the more stringent requirements of the Robin balloon. The study presents a discussion of the problem, the analysis of system errors, and examination of existing radars. At the conclusion of the study, it is recommended that a relatively inexpensive radar consisting of the Prelort Pedestal and Servo System be used in conjunction with specially tailored transmitter and receiver subsystems for a network of high-altitude research and data gathering centers. An examination of the present Robin tracking technique is also discussed. (Author)
