ANALYTICAL AERIAL TRIANGULATION WITH SMALL COMPUTER.

Abstract

Investigations of analytical aerial triangulation and its application to field use employing a small computer led to the development by GIMRADA of two independent methods of triangulation. A decision was made to compare and evaluate these methods and other available methods to determine the method best suited for use by the Army. The results of four methods of singlestrip analytical aerial triangulation are presented: (1) The Herget method developed by Cornell University under GIMRADA contract, (2) the Schut method developed by the National Research Council of Canada, (3) the Zurlinden method as developed by GIMRADA, and (4) the Herget method as developed by the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center. A comparison of the above methods was made based on the results of fictitious and real data runs and evaluation of factors related to field application within the Army. Recommended methods of strip adjustment, secondary applications of the methods, and the results of a general investigation of the required system support equipment are given. Program operational procedures are described. (Author)
