EVALUATION AND IMPROVEMENT OF RADAR BEACON SYSTEMS.

Abstract

Efforts were continued on a study program to establish system parameters and technical specifications for a coherent radar beacon and to determine the feasibility of using tunnel diodes, varactor diodes, and other solid state devices to advance the art of radar beaconry. Experimental results on a C-band waveguide tunnel diode amplifier are presented. Analysis and design of a C-band coaxial tunnel diode amplifier is also presented. Design equations for a tunnel diode detector at microwave frequencies are included. The nuclear hardening problem as applied to beacon circuitry is discussed. The effects of nuclear radiation on various components is also discussed. The effect of missile rotation on coherent beacon is also discussed. (Author)
