A LOW-NOISE, MULTIPLE-FUNCTION, X-BAND TRAVELINGWAVE TUBE.

Abstract

This report describes the work performed in a program to design and develop a low-noise, multiple-function, X-band traveling-wave tube. As a result of a meeting with NRL and Buships personnel during the quarter, revisions to the existing specifications for video output and gain of the linear output section were proposed. While a formal change in the specification has not as yet been received, preliminary plans are being made for incorporating these modifications in the tube design. Several mechanical changes have resulted in increased strength and simpler construction as well as improve electrical performance. These changes were made in the rf coupling system, helix assembly, electron gun, and the focusing structure. The proposed new specifications will necessitate additional modifications in design which will require further effort to insure stable operation of the tube. (Author)
