MACHINE PROCESSING OF GEOLOGICAL DATA

Abstract

Detailed instructions are given for using electronic computers to determine the statistics from sediment grain size analyses. The computer programs are written specifically for the IBM 650 and IBM 709 computers, but they may be adapted for use on other computers. Two types of programs are described. One gives order statistics such as Trask, Inman, and Folk and Ward values and is referred to as the sediment description program, whereas the second program gives the moment measures of the grain size distribution.
