OPERATIONAL TEST AND EVALUATION, NEW CENTER BARREL CLAMP.

Abstract

The new center barrel clamp for the M-61 gun was developed to facilitate gun maintenance during aircraft turn-around and to simplify removal procedures subsequent to gun malfunctions. The new clamp simplifies required maintenance actions and requires an average of only two minutes for removal as compared to 35 minutes for the standard clamp. During air and ground firing, no significant degradation of predicted impact points was reported. Static ground firing revealed a general increase in dispersion of 2% to 8%. There was no major shift in impact point when compared with the results obtained from the standard clamp. (Author)
