AUTOMATED SPIN WAVE INSTABILITY THRESHOLD MEASUREMENT AND RECORDING,

Abstract

A method for automatically plotting spin wave instability threshold data (butterfly curves) is described. The plotting system employs a servo loop to lock the power level of a microwave signal at the spin wave instability threshold level while the applied magnetic field is swept. Typical data obtained using this method are presented and compared with data taken manually, and general agreement is noted. Detailed descriptions of all system components and selected photographs of the apparatus are included in the appendices. (Author)
