A CRITICAL SURVEY OF MAGNETOFLUID DYNAMICS. PART I: GENERAL DISCUSSION.

Abstract

A critical survey of magneto-fluid dynamics is presented with special emphasis on the fundamental features of this branch of fluid dynamics and the new phenomena which differ from those of ordinary fluid dynamics. After some discussions of the fundamental equations of magnetofluid dynamics and their properties, several typical flow problems of magneto-fluid dynamics are analyzed which include one dimensional flow, MFD power generation, inviscid flows and viscous flows. Finally the need for good experimental investigations is pointed out and improvements and extensions of classical magnetofluid dynamics are briefly discussed. (Author)
