DECODING RULES FOR KAUTZ'S CODES,
Abstract
Decoding rules are presented which can be applied to any Kautz's code and which correct any number of scattered errors as well as any error burst within the theoretical performance of the code. The solution of the decoding problem at such a level of generality is mainly of theoretical interest. Its practical importance comes from the possibility of introducing modifications to shorten the decoding work by considering only subclasses of codes, or by requiring correction of more limited numbers of errors (e.g. in systems incorporating the possibility of requesting repeats).
