OPERATIONAL TEST AND EVALUATION DUMMY AMMUNITION FOR THE M-61 CANNON.

Abstract

TAC Test 62-67 was established to test the use of a dummy 20 mm projectile to effect an accurate limitation and count of the rounds expended on the F-105D's M-61 cannon during training sorties. The concept of this dummy cartridge must be considered unsatisfactory in providing an effective count of expended ammunition, although it can be successfully used to limit the number of rounds available during a sortie. To achieve the stated aims of both counting and limiting ammunition available on training sorties, it is strongly recommended that a digital counter, activated by firing impluse, be developed.
