DEFORMATION PROCESSING OF ANISOTROPIC METALS.

Abstract

Certain textured sheet materials may enjoy rather remarkable increases in flow stress under conditions of combined stress loading. The initial goals of this program are the following: (1) to determine experimentally the complete yield locus for some textured sheets. (2) to check the findings in (1) with predictions from the continuum analysis of Hi11; and (3) to attempt to relate the shape of the yield locus directly to the prevailing deformation modes and the crystallographic texture. During the first report period the yield locus for an alpha (2.5 Sn - 5 A1) titanium alloy sheet was determined experimentally. The agreement of the experimental points with the equation for the yield locus in a biaxial stress state was within 10%. The various types of specimens and associated stress ratios are given along with the experimental values and the predicted values of an isotropic material based on the usual Mises yield criterion.
