RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ON HIGH-POWER CRESTATRONS FOR THE 100-300 MC FREQUENCY RANGE.

Abstract

Several trajectory plots obtained in the design of the P sub mu = 20 hollow-beam gun are described. It is found that further work is necessary before a well focused beam will be obtained. A number of 100-watt Crestatrons were tested. Several methods of increasing the power output of these tubes are described. They are an improvement of the electron gun and the RF matching sections. In order to improve the efficiency of the tubes, advantage of phasefocusing techniques and depressed potential collectors will be taken in future tubes. (Author)
