STUDIES IN THE THERMOCHEMISTRY OF BORON-CONTAINING MOLECULES.

Abstract

A high precision semi-micro aneroid isothermal calorimeter was developed and is described. It may be used to investigate the calorimetry of a wide range of reacting systems including those where one component is a gas. Its heat capacity is 100 cal deg to the -1 power and, in conjunction with its ancillary equipment, it is capable of measuring heat outputs of the order of ten calories with a precision of plus or minus 0.1%. It has been used to study the heats of addition of diborane to the following organic bases of the group V elements: Mono-, di-, and tri-phenyl phosphine; triphenyl arsine. The results are tabulated in detail in the main body report. (Author)
