OPTICALLY PUMPED IMAGE LIGHT AMPLIFICATION.

Abstract

A study was made of image intensification via the parametric optical amplifier. The physical processes associated with such an amplifier were examined in detail. These include material requirements, noise effects, the dispersive medium, the anisotropic induced polarization, refractive index matching, and crystal orientation. A simplified example shows the strength of the required anisotropic tensor polarizability. Present materials are marginal in satisfying these requirements. A search for new materials is suggested and an otuline for a proposed experimental program is indicated. (Author)
