DATA TRANSMISSION INVESTIGATION.

Abstract

Experimental results are presented of digital data transmission tests conducted in the laboratory and over existing military voice communication systems. Both carrier telephone and voice radio links are evaluated for their digital data handling capabilities, and error rates are given for various field conditions. Modems employing various modulation techniques such as FSK, diphase and quad-phase modulation were tested over these communication links. The laboratory evaluation of the modems include white noise, impulse noise, and frequency translation tests. In addition, photographs of the spectra generated by the modems at their various vit rates (150 to 4800 bps) are presented and used to discuss the bandwidth requirements of each modem. (Author)
