AN EXPLORATORY INVESTIGATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FOUR PERSONALITY MEASURES AND VOLUNTARY RESIGNATION FROM AVIATION TRAINING,

Abstract

The scores on four personality measures testing ego-strength, anxiety, introversion-extraversion, and attitudes toward quitting were studied for their relationships with voluntary withdrawal from the Naval Air Training Program. The subjects who voluntarily withdrew from the program had higher mean score on the anxiety scale and had mean score indicating attitudes more accepting of the idea of quitting than subjects who were still in the program a year after having taken the tests. There was a tendency for the subjects who were in the program the longest to express a more socially introverted orientation than the subjects who were in the program for only one week at the time of testing. The ego-strength measure did no yield any significant relationships with voluntary withdrawal from the training program. (Author)
