EFFECTS OF HEART DISTENSION ON ALDOSTERONE SECRETION.
Abstract
The effects of auricular distension have been studied on the secretion of aldosterone in the intact dog as well as after vagotomy, deccrebration, hypophysectomy, or hypothalamic lesions. In the anesthetized dog it was found that: (1) Distension of the right auricle diminishes aldosterone secretion by at least 50 percent; this effect is suppressed by vagotomy or posterior hypothalamic lesions; in contrast, hypophysectomy or anterior hypothalamic lesions do not alter this decrease of aldosterone secretion; and (2) distension of the left auricle does not influence aldosterone secretion.
