A VELOCITY-ELECTRICLA CONDUCTIVITY TRANSDUCER FOR AXISYMMETRIC RE-ENTRY VEHICLES,

Abstract

A transducer for measuring the product of electrical conductivity and velocity and having a geometry particularly suitable for axisymmetric vehicles is described. The relation of plasma sheath properties to signal is investigated theoretically. It is the current within a narrow ring of the plasma sheath concentric with the sensing coil that causes the signal. An experiment was performed using an arc plasma jet. The aim of the experiment was to confirm the operation of the instrument. (Author)
