MOLTEN-CARBONATE FUEL BATTERY PROGRAM.

Abstract

A number of minor changes in cell module design and operation have resulted in some improvement in operability. However, a problem affecting useful life has occurred in scale-up from the small test cells. Although the formation of silver den drites and the consequent shorting-out of cells was not a problem with the small cells, it has become a very real problem with the larger cells and cell modules. Work to circumvent or reduce this problem is continuing. The effects of this difficulty on reliability are not great enough to preclude construction of a 100-watt demonstration unit operating with an integral liquid hydrocarbon conversion unit. Therefore, design work is proceeding on such a demonstration system. (Author)
