OPTIMUM DESIGN OF ELECTROSTATICALLY FOCUSED FLOATING-DRIFT-TUBE KLYSTRON,
Abstract
The usefulness of the floating-drift-tube oscillator could be greatly increased as an efficient signal source of medium power at frequencies above 10 kmc, if purely electrostatic focusing were applied. A method is described of designing floating-drift-tube klystrons, using Pierce guns, with no magnetic focusing required. In order to increase the available electronic efficiency, depressed collectors in the form of an inversed Pierce gun may be applied. The design procedures are discussed and outlined. (Author)
