AROUND THE WORLD BY MICROWAVE FOR HALF A BILLION DOLLARS,

Abstract

This paper attempts to place in better perspective a half-billion dollar communications expenditure. It suggests that a worldwide microwave communication system of video capacity might be built for a sum camparable to what has been spent thus far on research and development of communication satellite systems. Major features affecting installation costs are discussed and cost estimates are presented for two hypothetical round-the-world routes. (Author)
