ATMOSPHERIC DISPERSION AND ABSORPTION OF MICROWAVES,

Abstract

Some methods are given to perform measurements of refractive index of gases at microwave frequency. A refractometer apparatus is described with two resonant cavities fed by a R.F. modulated klystron: one cavity is the reference for the stabilization of the klystron frequen cy over the first side band; the other one is tuned with the opposite side-band. Variations of refractive index are measured by means of the evaluation of the shift of the frequency of modulation, necessary to reset the second cavity into the original condition. (Author)
