FORECASTING VISIBILITY RESTRICTIONS WITH BLOWING DUST AT LUKE AIR FORCE BASE ARIZONA,

Abstract

Empirical rules for the forecasting of restrictions to visibility with blowing dust from the local terminal wind forecast are presented along with a discussion of the problem and charts depicting the data used. These rules are based upon recorded past occurrences of maximum wind gusts and minimum prevailing visibility. Contingency tables based upon dependent and independent data are included in the study.
