MICRORADIOGRAPHIC STUDY OF ORGANIC IODIDE EXCRETION.
Abstract
An apparatus for contact microradiography for the study of the localization of various organic iodides in the kidney as well as other radiopaque materials in other tissues was constructed. The mechanical components of the apparatus include: (1) a demountable, continuously evacuated x-ray tube which consists of a stainless steel turret containing a cathode assembly (externally shielded and insulated for II kilovolts) and a water-cooled anode assembly with replaceable target and variable angle of inclination; (2) a two inch high-vacuum system capable of maintaining a pressure of less than 5 x 10 to the -6th power mm Hg while the tube is operating; (3) a sample chamber which can accommodate either 1 ft. x 3 in. or 2 in. x 2 in. photographic plates; (4) provision for sealing the chamber from the tube for admitting atmosphere into the chamber, for evacuating it, and flushing out residual air with helium, thus enabling the tube to be maintained at high vacuum and the filament to be continuously heated while the chamber is loaded and unloaded.
