CHARACTERISTICS OF DIELECTRIC WAVEGUIDE MODES.

Abstract

A digital computer computation is made of the characteristics of cylindrical dielectric waveguide mode propagation for the 59 lowest order modes. The index of refraction of the cladding is taken as 1.52 and the computations are made for core indices of refraction of 1.53, 1.56, 1.62, 1.69, 1.75, 1.80 and 2.00. For a given mode and index combination, the region between cut-off and far from cut-off is covered by a computation of 40 points. At each point a computation is made for the phase velocity, group velocity, guide propagation constant, and the parameters needed to precisely describe the field in the core and cladding. (Author)
