RADIATIVE PION-NUCLEON SCATTERING,

Abstract

The cross section for bremsstrahlung in pion nuclear scattering is calculated from the results of the static nucleon theory. The result agrees well with a recent measurement at an average pion laboratory kinetic energy of about 300 Mev. The theoretical result is .25 mb, compared to the experimental value .22 = .05 mb. The energy distribution of the final pion is computed at laboratory energies of 200, 300, and 400 Mev. The 3-3 isobar shows up clearly at the latter two energies, in agreement with experiment. Experiments are suggested whereby the bremsstrahlung can be used as a probe to obtain information about the higher resonances in pion-nucleon scattering. (Author)
