EFFECT OF INTERNAL PRESSURE UPON HOLLOW HELICAL SPRINGS.

Abstract

A limited quantity of data is available concerning the effect of internal pressurization upon the behavior of hollow helical springs. Because of the possibility of applications in air or spacecraft, further information concerning this effect would be desirable. The results of tests conducted upon 6061-T6 hollow aluminum helical springs, both extension and compression, indicate that only minor variations of the spring constant, free length, or mean coil diameter result from internal pressurization.
