SHEAR STRENGTH OF BRAZED INCONEL 718.

Abstract

Tests were conducted to ascertain the room temperature lap shear stresses developed in Inconel 718 joints brazed with Coast Metals alloys 52 and 56 LC, and through the shear stresses, to evaluate the effects of brazing temperature and time variations. Coast Metals 56 LC exhibited a failing shear stress of 31,000 psi in joints brazed at 2050F for 15 minutes, whereas the highest shear stress exhibited by Coast Metals 52 (28,200 psi) occurred in joints brazed at 1950F for 15 minutes. When brazed at 2150F for 15 minutes, Coast Metals 56 LC severely attacked the base metal, particularly in the fillet area of the joint. (Author)
