EFFECTS OF TURCO 4127 SOLVENT ON PAINT AND RUBBER.

Abstract

The object of this test was to determine the flash point of Turco 4127 solvent and compare it to the flash point of Mozel No. 8; also to establish if Turco 4127 solvent has any deteriorating effects on the finishing systems or rubber materials it will come in contact with during use. The flash points of Turco 4127 solvent and Mozel No. 8 solvent were determined at 0, 10, 25, 50, 75, and 90% evaporation. (The Cleveland open cup method.) Four panels, two zinc chromate primed, the other glossy acrylic lacquer finished were immersed separately in each Mozel No. 8 and Turco 4127 solvent for one hour. Two square inches of AMS 3208 Neoprene and a two in. length of (Buna-N) MIL-H-8794 hose were immersed in each of the solvents for one hour. Test results revealed that the zinc chromate and the glossy acrylic lacquer finished panels were slightly effected by the one hour immersion in each of the solvents. (Buna-N) MIL-H-8794 hose showed no visual effects after one hour immersion in each Mozel No.8 and Turco 4127 solvent. The flash points of Mozel No. 8 solvent are higher in every case than those of Turco 4127 solvent when tested by the Cleveland open cup method. (Author)
