MIDBAND DISSIPATION LOSS IN BANDPASS FILTERS,

Abstract

The effect of lossy network elements upon the midband response of a bandpass filter is considered. Exact formulas are given for the center-frequency dissipation loss in terms of (1) the polynomial coefficients of the transmission coefficient and (2 the element values of the lossless filter. In addition, a simple graphical technique is described for calculating the center-frequency dissipation loss from the pole locations of the transmission coefficient. It is assumed that all filter elements are equally lossy, i.e., uniform dissipation exists. Universal dissipation-loss curves are plotted for Butterworth, Tschebyscheff, and equal-elements filters.
