MATERIALS FOR THERMOELECTRIC GENERATORS.

Abstract

The electronic properties of single crystals of alloys of PbTe and SnTe in various ratios between the two limits are being studied. PbTe and SnTe are isomorphous and form a continuous series of solid solutions. The related electronic properties: electrical resistivity, thermoelectric power, and thermal conductivity follow patterns related to the observed change in carrier concentrations. The investigation of ZnSb was hampered by difficulties encountered in producing single-phase single-crystals. The most successful method (but not a completely satisfactory one) involved a Bridgman-Zone solidification using a charge consisting of layers of different composition. (Author)
