TACAN AIR-TO-AIR BEARING ANTENNA DEVELOPMENT.

Abstract

The Tacan air-to-air bearing antenna development program was initiated to design, develop, test and furnish two airborne antennas for Tacan bearing. The airborne antenna is to include speed control, a magnetic north orientation servo and reference trigger pulse generator compatible with AN/GRN-9 circuitry. Design considerations for the miniature Tacan antenna are in progress. Field testing of a model antenna over the airborne transmitting frequency range has indicated that vertical angle coverage of at least 60 degrees will be obtainable. Design of the antenna motor drive circuits and antenna reference servo circuits is proceeding. Design of needed AN/ARN52 modifications for air-to-air bearing operation is in the study phase. Two modified AN/ARN-52 mechanical bearing modules were completed. (Author)
