AN INTRODUCTION TO DATA PROCESSING IN TRIAL COURTS,

Abstract

This report outlines the history of an investigation in progress at the System Development Corporation (SDC) into the applications of computing systems to legal problems. This work was undertaken at no cost to the Courts, in fulfillment of SDC's charter to do work in the public interest. It reports on surveys made, states that the Superior Court of Los Angeles County is the largest trial court of general jurisdiction in the world, and compares this effort with previous studies of legal information processing problems and sets forth that SDC's study makes a pervasive investigation into the processing of documents and the data therein by a large trial court, and that this investigation will furnish data to the judges upon which they can make decisions.
