EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF GAS LUBRICATED WATER BOUNDARY LAYERS,

Abstract

Gas lubrication experiments were conducted on two-dimensional and three-dimensional models. Thin films of maximum length of four to six inches were observed on the two-dimensional flat plate model at low water speeds and air flow rates. Comparable length films were observed on the paraboloid of revolution model under approximately the same conditions. Additional observations on gas lubrication are presented for low water speeds, including the shedding phenomenon. (Author)
