VIDEO DETECTOR DIODES FOR COUNTERMEASURES EQUIPMENT.

Abstract

The theoretical sensitivity of the diodes was calculated by measuring the characteristic parameters, R sub B, C sub B and R sub S. Several techniques were used to determine experimentally these parameters. The best technique was a slotted line microwave measurement performed under equivalent operating conditions that is, at the frequency and bias normally encountered when the unit is used as a video detector. Experimental setups to measure tangential sensitivity for approximate, as well as absolute, sets of measurements have been developed. To achieve the best power-handling diode, the breakdown mechanism is being investigated experimentally. The diodes have been subjected to a variety of tests, rather than merely being measured for their burnout power at high frequency. Tests of the power-handling ability of the junction diodes at low frequency were performed in addition to RF pulse and RF continuouswave tests. (Author)
