KINETICS OF SHORT-RANGE ORDERING IN ALPHA BRASS,

Abstract

The kinetics of short-range ordering in alpha brass have been studied as a function of isothermal annealing. Results published by other investigators disagreed on the nature of the ordering process; our findings support the description of the process as essentially first order. Results obtaine4 in experiments to determine the influence of parameters known to have been different in work giving non-first order kinetics also conformed. There was no significant deviation from an essentially first order process, indicating that the explanation of non-first order results lies elsewhere. (Author)
