SOME NEW RESULTS OF GEOPHYSICAL INVESTIGATIONS WITH THE AID OF THE SATELLITES KOSMOS 3 AND KOSMOS 5,

Abstract

Corpuscular radiation measurements in the upper atmosphere were made with the aid of the satellites Kosmos 3 and Kosmos 5. Recordings were made of particles of different energy groups: (1) protons with energy greater than 50 Mev or electrons with energy greater than 0.4 Mev, and (2) electrons with energy in the vicinity of 100 kev, electrons with energy of the order of 10 kev. The spatial disposition of these groups is not uniform and changes at the time of magnetic disturbances. Lines were plotted for equal intensity at heights of about 650 kilometers over the South Atlantic magnetic anomaly for the first and second groups. Electrons with energy of about 10 kev appear sporadically. The rapid slowing down of the satellite Kosmos 3 is noted. (Author)
