DEVELOPMENT OF ALL-SOLID-STATE C- AND X-BAND PULSED-POWER GENERATORS.
Abstract
Results of the entire C- and X-band power generator development program are presented. Program objectives were to design, develop, build, and deliver six feasibility models of all-solid-state, 5- and 1-gc pulsed-power generators. Design of a transistorized exciter and a frequency multiplier chain were the primary tasks of the program. The frequency multiplication circuitry consisted of an oscillator, tripler, and a chain of cascaded frequency doublers; the transistorized exciter is comprised of an oscillator, tripler, and eight stages of amplification delivering a minimum power output of 60 w at 156.25 mc. A chain of six cascaded frequency multipliers converted the exciter frequency to the required C- and X-band range. Five frequency doublers provided a 1.9 w output at C-band (5 gc); the same five doublers and a doubler employing a coaxline-waveguide structure provided a 0.6 w peak power output at X-band (10 gc). The multiplier chain consisted of two lumped-element doublers operating from 156.25 to 625 mc and four distributed-element frequency doublers operating from 625 mc to 10 gc. The equipment fabrication phase satisfied the original contractual requirements consistent with proposed amendments. (Author)
